Nine people were killed and 10 injured in a shooting at a bar near Johannesburg, South Africa, by unidentified gunmen.
Police said the incident took place early Sunday morning in the gold-mining town of Bakersdale, about 40 kilometers southwest of Johannesburg.
Police said about a dozen attackers drove into two vehicles and opened fire on people in the bar before fleeing.
The death toll was initially reported at 10, but police later revised the number to nine.
The dead included an online taxi driver who was outside the bar. Police have launched a massive search operation to find the suspects. No major breakthroughs or arrests have been made so far.
Crime, gang violence and illegal weapons are making South Africa a hotbed of gun violence, straining the administration. There is widespread fear and panic among the public.
This is the second major shooting incident this month, according to police, after 12 people were killed in an attack on a hostel near Pretoria.
According to statistics, an average of 63 people were killed every day in South Africa between April and September, with personal disputes, robberies and gang wars being the main causes.
